Primary Junior 2 West Ch’Ship: Moycullen 0-12 --St Michaels’3-10
Intermediate Championship, Group 3, Round 1: St Michaels’ 0-19 – Oranmore 2-16
News: The pre Cat Ballou entertainment on Friday night was provided by the Juniors of Moycullen and St Michaels’ out in Baile Dóite where Michaels’ prevailed by 3-10 to 0-12. This win puts them in to the business end of the Championship and perhaps a win over Claregalway might put them straight into a quarter Final. Team: B. Sheridan, L. Brannigan (1-0), J. Downes & C. Keane. C. Cloherty, D. Thornton & R. Mac Giolla Rí. D. Sinton (1-1) & D. Mc Govern (0-1). N. Ward, S. O’ Reilly (0-1) & M. Maguire (0-2). C. Morley, D. Connaughton (1-1) & E. Coffee (0-4(3f). Subs: C. Horan, A. Hardiman, J. Summerville (0-1), E. Hoare (0-1f), K. Keady-Coakley & C. McNeill.
St Michaels’ Intermediates started out on their Championship on Saturday last, and it was a baffling defeat that opened their account in Group 3. Played in a dry & windy Kenny Park, Athenry, the scoring stat’s for teams that played into the town goal against the wind read: Aran Islands (0-1), Kilconly (0-5) and St Michaels (0-9). Things were looking good for St Michaels, and after 20 minutes of the 4th half of the day, Oranmore were on (0-3) and the performance, work rate & scoring rate were looking good for the boys in Royal Blue. Then a bout of nervousness, jitters and self-doubt (for whatever reason) gave the Oranmore boys oxygen & they tore into their opponents, out-scoring them 1-06 to 1 point in those last ten minutes plus injury time. Nobody saw this implosion coming, and I’m sure there is much head-scratching going on amongst players, subs, management & supporters alike. Personally, it was as good a game of Club football as I have watched at any grade in a long time. I also cannot recall when last St Michaels’ clocked up 19 points in an hour (18 in 50 minutes). The beauty of this competition is that there is time to get back up on the horse and correct things over the next two rounds. Team: S. Daly, S. Kerr, E. Kerin & C. Meagher. F. Cruise, B. Madden & S. Maloney. C. Gallagher (0-3) & D. Hurley. F. Daly (0-2), G. Summerville (0-1) & E. Fiorentini. G. Higgins (0-4f), D. Cunnane (0-2) & E. Brannigan (0-6). Subs: B. Harlowe (0-1f), E. O’ Donnell & E. McConnan.
