Senior Championship: Claregalway 2-16 ----------- St Michaels 1-12
Junior A North Board Championship: St Michaels 1-19 ---------Monivea Abbey 1-16.
Under 12 Group 4 Final: St Michaels 3-08 -------------- Carraroe 2-07
Fixtures are as Follows:
Friday September 15th: Under 14s. St Michaels v Spiddal at 18:45 at Westside.
Sunday September 17th: Under 17 Shield Semi-Final. St Michaels v Dunmore (No Time fixed yet).
Summary: Our Senior team were defeated for the second time this season in the group stages of the County Senior Championship on Sunday last when Claregalway defeated them by 2-16 to 1-12. If the players, management & supporters were offered that they would win the first & third quarters by an aggregate of nine points before the game, everybody would gratefully accept it, but the implosion in the 2nd quarter where Claregalway outscored us by 2-07 to 0-01 was the rock that winning aspirations were shattered upon. Scores at the end of each quarter were as follows: Claregalway named first: 0-02 to 1-03, 2-09 to 1-04, 2-11 to 1-11 and 2-16 to 1-12. St Michaels’ final position on the League table are now subject to how the final 2 games go, (Tuam v Mountbellew – Moylough and Claregalway v Dunmore) with the possibilities of finishing 3rd, 4th or 5th at the end of the League stages. St Michaels’ Junior A team had a 1-19 to 1-16 victory over Monivea-Abbey in a very entertaining game of high standards played in the Westside on Saturday evening last. Paddy McTigue top-scored with 1-04 from play, closely followed by Greg Rogan with six points. Michaels’ led by 0-10 to 7 points at half time, and it was the Westside’ Boys’ almost flawless shooting in the second half that won this game, when they didn’t shoot any wide in the final period. They are now into the North Board Final against Glinsk and it is expected that will be played in 2 weeks time. Team: M. Walsh, L. Brannigan, K. Clancy & C. Keane. E. Fiorentini, D. Thornton & M. Congratulations to the Management and players of the St Michaels Under 12 squad who went through the season undefeated, culminating in a 4 point win against Carraroe in the Final on Sunday morning.
Westside Pitch resembled hive of activity on Sunday morning where St Michaels’ hosted the Under 9 boys of Maigh Cuilinn as well as the Under 10 Boys & Girls of An Cheathrú Rua in a series of Blitzes. The weather played its part and well done to all involved.
Football Board: You may have noticed by now, that the Galway Football Board have launched a fundraising initiative in the guise of a limited draw for an apartment at a cost of €100.00 per ticket, limited to 20,000. We are asking all of our members and sponsors who may be considering the purchase of a ticket(s), to buy them through our Club. St Michaels’ have received an allocation to distribute in return for some discount on Board costs in 2024. . Anyone purchasing may do so by contacting the Club Treasurer, Eamonn Smyth at 087 6461305.
Training times will remain as they have been into the Autumn for as long as daylight allows.
Numbers drawn in this week’s Peter Curran Electric St Michaels’ GAA Club Draw were: 04-11-12-14 . There was no winner of the Jackpot.
