Summary–A
powerful second half performance from Aherlow ensured victory in a keenly
contested west final against a spirited Golden team in Sean Treacy park last
Saturday afternoon. Golden got off to a great start with two points on the
board from frees from Brendan Moloney and Chrisopher Ryan. Aherlow soon replied
with two frees from Cathal Dillion but Golden driven on by the outstanding
Brendan Moloney at centre forward powered on with Moloney hitting two great
points from play in the 18th and the 25th minute. Seamus Grogan got
a 4th point for Aherlow before the break and just on the whistle anotherBrendan Moloney free ensured Golden went in
at the break 0-5 to 0-4. In the second half however a different Aherlow showed
up and they tore into Golden turning the one point deficit into a two-point
lead inside five minutes with Seamus Grogan very dangerous on the edge of the
square. Aherlow continued to dominate as Golden struggled to match them all
over the field. With ten minutes to go the game looked over as Aherlow led by
0-10 to 0-5 but a goal from Jamie Currivan after a great run by Christopher
Ryan brought them back into the game. However Aherlow never panicked and again
blitzed Golden with another four points some truly outstanding efforts from out
the field. Golden tried desperately to get the goal they needed but managed
only another point from Christopher Ryan. In the end Aherlow ran out deserving
winners as they upped their performance in the second half. The Golden lads
tried to the bitter end but in the end could have no complaints with the
result.
