On the
sports front last weekend our minor hurlers were defeated by knockmealdown
Gaels in the county semi final in Cahir last Saturday. It was clear from early
on that the lads were up against it as Knockmealdown had some final hurlers on
view and our lads struggled to stay with them. A goal halfway through the first
half brought the Golden lads back into the game but they could never draw level
with the south team. In the second half Golden made changes to try and get back
in the game but the reality was that they were up against a better team on the
day. Hard luck to Ger Luby, John Coolahan and Mick Dell
On Sunday then the junior
footballers went in as underdogs in the west final against Sean Treacys. After
fifteen minutes the favouritism tag seemed justified as the Treacys raced into
an early four point lead. However to the credit of the Golden lads they fought
back manfully and went into the break a point clear. In the second half Golden
had much of the play but the achilles heel of shooting was to let them down.
Leading by a point going into injury time Golden conceded a soft free which
allowed Treacys to draw the game which meant extra time. At this stage however
it seemed the Golden lads had given their all and Treacys seemed the fitter
team. They scored 1-2 without reply in extra time to win the game comfortably
in the end. It was a tough defeat for the Golden lads who put up a super
performance and possibly should have won the game in normal time. Hard luck to
Gavin Ryan, Kevin Moloney and John Currivan.
This
weekend coming the junior hurlers contest the west final against Arravale
Rovers, The game takes place in Cappawhite at 4pm on Sunday. The lads will be
hoping to make up for last years defeat in the final to Cashel. The team has
some injuries ahead of the game so we hope all will be right for the final.
Best of luck to the team and the management ofKevin Moloney, John Currivan and Eamonn Carr
