On the sports front pride of the parish goes to our minor
hurlers who completed the west double when they defeated Cappawhite in the minor
west final at Bansha last weekend. A super display from the entire team and a
storming finish ensured the trophy came back to Golden. They are now in the
county semi finals of both hurling and football which is a terrific
achievement. Great credit must go to Ger Luby, John Coolahan and Mick Dell.
Another big weekend
again coming up for the club. This coming Friday night the Junior hurlers face
Cashel in the west semi final of the junior championship. These two teams
contested a cracking west final last year with Cashel coming out on top.
Another close encounter is expected. The game takes place in Golden at 6pm.
On Sunday next our senior hurlers face Killenaule in the
last sixteen of the county in Cashel at 2pm. This will be a very
tough game with Killenaule having some of the county hurlers on their panel.
Nevertheless if our lads perform like they did in the west championship a
surprise could be on the cards. Jimbob McCarthy and Daithi Bargary are back
from the States and have been a major boost to the panel. Shane Stapelton,
Brendan Moloney,Michael Harding and Paul fogarty all have injury concerns going
into the game but hopefully they will be ok on the day. We wish them all the
best of luck in Cashel at 2pm.
On Monday next then the U/21 hurlers are due to play their
west final against Aherlow in Sean Treacy Park. This game may not go ahead if
Aherlow are successful in their senior football semi final at the weekend. If
the game goes ahead it will be a cracker with many fine hurlers on view from
both sides. Aherlow were comfortable winners when they met in the league stages
so it will be a big game for the Golden lads. We wish them all the best
