On the sports front the Golden intermediates were well beaten by Cappawhite in the county league football final on Friday night last. Cappawhite started off a very strong wind and laid the platform for their victory in the first half. Our lads tried to the bitter end but on the night the Cappawhite lads were superior in terms of fitness and football played. This weekend coming on sunday our lads play them again in the west intermediate champiohship, so tha lads might get a chance to gain revenge.
Our senior hurlers have a couple of challenge matches coming up as they prpare for the next round of the west senior hurling champiohsip, first travelling to Fermoy to play Inis Cearra then tomorrow night travelling to Kilkenny to take on one fo the city teams.
The Junior B's also kicked off thier campaign this evening with a fine win over Knockavilla in the first round of the Junior B championship played in Golden . On a very warm night this result was never in doubt even before the whistle was blown with Kickhams lining out with only fourteen players. As a result the game was very low key all through as a vastly superior Golden team dominated from the start. In the first five minutes the game was effectively over as two early goals from the Golden forwards opened up an immediate gap. This was followed by a flurry of points from the impressive Charles Welsh, Tom Tierney and Daithi Ivors. Kickhams managed to get a fifteenth man after fifteen minutes but this failed to make a difference to the score line. At half time Golden led by 2-11 to 0-1. In the second half an early goal from Kickhams threatened to kick-start a revival but the door was firmly shut a minute later when John Ryan blasted home his second goal to seal the game. Golden made a number of changes after this and the game petered out as a spectacle. A late goal from a long range free from Brian Fogarty topped an impressive performance from the Golden team.
Finally the club would like to wish james Tierney and his bride to be Michelle, all the best on their big day next Thursday
in Kilkenny
.
