MEN’S NOTES:

This weekend proved to be a very successful one for the club as we brought home two county trophies in two days.

On Saturday our under 21 team won the clubs 15th county under 21 ‘A’ final, defeating Barna on a scoreline of Corofin 3-8 to Barna 1-8.  The Corofin goal scorers were Conor Cunningham, Ian Burke and Dylan Wall.  The joint captains of the team were Conor Langan and Aaron Molloy.  The man-of-the-match award went to Conor Cunnningham.  Well done to the team and mentors whose first game in the championship was played on 7 February last.

Well done also to our senior team who captured the division one league title on Sunday.  They had drawn with Annaghdown after extra time a few weeks ago.  The final score was Corofin 1-12 to Annaghdown 1-6, with the all-important goal coming from Gary Delaney in the first half.   The team now takes a well-deserved rest before returning to training early in the New Year.

The final event in our Prediction Quiz took place when Gort won the 2014 Galway Senior Hurling Championship.  Only one player – Stephen Canavan – predicted a Gort win.  The vast majority had predicted a Portumna win!

Our overall winners are as follows:-  First: Derek Ryder, Rusheens, €500;

Second: Jonathan Tierney, Rahoon, €250; Third Vincent Earls, Killimordaly, €150.  Well done to our prizewinners and thanks to all who supported our quiz.

The second national club draw was recently launched by the GAA.  Prizes, which are provided by Croke Park, include a trip with the 2015 All-Stars, a trip to New York, travel voucher to the value of €1500, All-Ireland Hurling & Football Final Corporate Package 2015 and much more.   Tickets, which cost €10, can be obtained from any committee member and would make an ideal Christmas present.  All the proceeds from the sale of tickets within the club go towards our own fundraising.

Please note that the club AGM will be held on Friday 9 January at 8.00 pm in Belclare.

The annual club social will take place in the Claregalway Hotel on Saturday 24 January.

The club offers its sympathy to the Hoade family, Kilcurriff, Cummer, on the death of Tom Hoade, RIP.

As the year draws to a close, the club would like to most sincerely thank the managers and mentors at all levels in the club from under six up to senior.  Their work has ensured that our players have been given the best possible opportunity to develop their skills and enjoy the game of football.  We also want to extend a special ‘thank you’ to all who supported us in any way throughout the year.  Thanks also to all who worked in the background on the executive and other committees and especially our dedicated players who continue to bring honour to our club and parish.

The club would like to wish all our members, supporters, friends, and followers everywhere a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and we hope everybody has a Joyful and Prosperous New Year  – Le gach dea ghuí i gcóir na Nollag agus na hAth bliana.
