MENS NOTES:

Best wishes to our seniors who play Milltown in the Conty semi-final in Tuam Stadium at 2.00 pm on Sunday.  This team appreicates your support, so please come along to this important game.  The referee for the game is Tommy Faherty.

There was heartbreak for Corofin who drew with Errigal Ciaran (Tyrone) 1-11 to 2-8 in their final group game of the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Senior Sevens Football played last Saturtday.  Corofin had won their two earlier group games.  In the first game they defeated Clashmore-Kinsalebeg (Waterford) by 2-7 to 2-5. The lads then went on to have a good win by 4-8 to 1-6 over St Laurence’s (Kildare).  However they failed to make it to the knockout stages as Errigal Ciaran advanced with a better score difference.  The final was won by St. Galls, Antrim, who claimed a record sixth FBD title.   For the record, Corofin haven’t lost a game at the Sevens in 3 years.  They suffered heartbreak again in 2012 when they lost on penalties to St. Galls.  The won the title last year and won two games and drew one this year.  The Corofin panel was:  Dave Morris, Padraic Hanly, Ian Burke, Shane Monaghan, Barry O'Donovan, Jason Leonard, Oisín Mannion, Adrian Molloy, Conor Cunningham and Joe Canney.   Many thanks to the panel and mentors who travelled to this prestigous tournament.

Our minors lost the North Board minor final to a much stronger Mountbellew-Moylough team on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-5.  The Corofin goal was scored by Dylan Wall.  We send our congratulations to Mountbellew-Moylough and wish them all the best in the County final.

We want to thank everyone who helped out with the minor panel this year, parents, physios, club officers and team managers Jimmy McHugh, Pat McHugh and Jimmy Sice. We wish to thank all the players for their effort and commitment all year.  It was a pleasure for the management to deal with this fine bunch of young men.  They are a credit to their parents, families and the club.

Under 15 made it two wins out of two when they beat Glenamaddy-Glinsk on last Sunday in Glenamaddy.  We play Caherlistrane on Sunday 28th in Caherlistrane at 12.00 pm.

The club will host the annual Kevin Killeen under 10 tournament this Saturday 27th in Belclare starting at 1.00 pm.  Please come along to support the lads.

Under 8 and 6 training this Saturday has been changed to the Corofin pitch at 10.00 am due to the Kevin Killeen tournament been played in Belclare.

Our under 8s travel to Ballyshannon to play matches against Aodh Ruadh on Saturday 4 October.  The cost of the tour is €30 per player, which includes bus, lunch, dinner and a Corofin ‘goodie bag’ containing club branded gear. All money and consent forms, signed by parents, must be returned to Ciarán Lynch by Saturday 27 September at latest.  Only paid up club members may travel.

LADIES FOOTBALL:

U8s training continues every Tuesday at 6.15 in Belclare.

The U10s have training every Tuesday from 6.15 to 7.30 in Belclare and also every Thursday from 6.15 to 7.30 in Corofin.  Please note change of times.  We need everyone to please attend training sessions from here on, as only a few weeks left.

The U12s had a good win over Dunmore on Saturday the 20th in Belclare.  U12 training continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 6.15 in Belclare.  All girls need to attend in order to prepare for the county final versus  Killanin in two weeks time.

We wish the U14s the very best of luck next Saturday in the Kilmacud sevens.

The under 16s beat Claregalway last week by 8 points in a very fine display of teamwork and commitment.

Congratulation to the Minor Girls on reaching the Div 1 County Shield Final.  They beat Dunmore on a score line of 3-11 to 0-17. Well done to all the girls and thanks to parents and supporters who turned out to support the team.

Note for the diary:  Corofin ladies club is holding an end of year monster Halloween Ball.  We will have loads of prizes, raffles, fun and maybe a few scary Witches and Goblins.  Everyone is welcome but you must be in costume.  Full details later.
