GAA CLUB NOTES

Last Wednesday the U-19’d played their Round 2 fixture of the U-19 A Galway League North away to Annaghdown. It was a very tight game, keenly contested by both teams. It was only the slimmest of margins in it at the final whistle, unfortunately it was not in our favour. Corofin 1-10 Annaghdown 1-11.

On Sunday the Junior D (5th adult team) hosted Kilconly for Round 1 of the Junior D Football Championship – North. It was great to see so many players togging out for our fifth adult team and it was thoroughly enjoyable game. Unfortunately, Kilconly proved too strong but the brighter days are ahead for this group with a mix of youth, experience and a shared enthusiasm.

On Saturday the Galway Senior team played Sligo, in Sligo, for the Connacht Championship Semi-Final. It was a tense affair with Galway prevailing in the end, Galway 1-13 Sligo 0-14. Dylan McHugh, Liam Silke and Jack McCabe started the game, while Kieran Molloy and Patrick Egan were introduced from the bench in the 2nd half. Dylan McHugh and Kieran Molloy scored a point each. The face Mayo in the provincial decider.

On Thursday, the Junior team host St. Mary’s Athenry in Corofin pitch at 7:30pm for Round 4 Division 4B. On Friday evening, the Senior team are away to Milltown at 7:15pm for Round 4 of Division 1. And on Saturday at 5:00pm, the Intermediate team host Oranmore-Maree at Corofin pitch for Round 4 of Division 3A. Best of luck to all the teams in action this week.

LGFA CLUB NOTES

Round 3 fixtures in Division 4 and Division 1 were played in glorious conditions at the weekend. The second team hosted Menlough-Skehana on Saturday in Corofin for Division 4. It was always going to be a tough game for the girls but they gave a spirited performance right to the final whistle. Corofin 1-04 Menlough-Skehana 2-09, goal from Louise Reilly.

The first team had their first win in Division 1 on Sunday with a 9 point win over Annaghdown. Our girls led by 1-6 to 0-6 at half time, courtesy of a goal by Ella Zwyczyk. However, on the resumption the hosts scored a quick fire 1-1 to lead by a point. A well worked team move ended with goal Leanne Coen, restoring our lead. Further goals by Roisin Leonard & Heather O'Leary closed the game out. Corofin 4-11 Annaghdown 1-11. A good team performance

UNDERAGE

Congratulations to Club players Ellie Harty-O’Brien and Orla Newell on their U-14 Connacht Championship Final with Galway against Roscommon on Saturday in Bekan. Both girls were brought onto the pitch in the second half, Orla playing at centre-half back and Ellie playing at corner forward and scoring an incredible hat-trick of goals. Well done girls.

On Saturday the U-14’s hosted O’Dwyers LGFA from Balbriggan, Dublin for an afternoon of football. The weather was fantastic and the football on display by both clubs was equally enjoyable. Thank you to O’Dwyers for making the journey down to us, and a big thank you to the volunteers who helped on the day and all the organising leading up to it. Thank you also to all the parents who gave generously to the treats and refreshments.

The Nursery Group continues every Saturday from 10:30am until 11:15am. This is training for Boys and Girls born in 2018/2019.
