GAA CLUB NOTES
Last Thursday evening the Senior team played An Bhearna in Milltown for their rescheduled Rd 5 of the Senior Championship Group 2. In difficult conditions the lads started the brightest, opening the scoring with a goal from Tony Gill on the 11 minutes. They added 4 points before the break without conceding a single score, 1-4 to 0-0. The second half was a much more even affair but the lads stayed in control and never looked in doubt of their clean-sweep of wins in Group 2. The game finished Corofin 1-8 An Bhearna 0-4.
On Saturday the Intermediates play Kilkerrin-Clonberne at 1:30pm in Milltown for their Intermediate Championship Relegation Rd 2.
LGFA CLUB NOTES
On Saturday the Senior team played Claregalway in Knockdoemore for their Senior Championship Semi-Final. It was a difficult start for the girls as Claregalway scored 3 goals in the first half. However, our girls were not to be deflated as they pulled a goal back through Róisín Leonard and traded points throughout the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to close the gap. The game finished Corofin 1-11 Claregalway 3-12.
Despite falling short in the Semi-Final, it was a great year for the Seniors with a great League campaign; reaching the Semi-Final of Division 1, a very successful Coen Cup campaign as they won the Shield Final and we were treated to some great individual and team performances throughout the Championship campaign. Well done to the players and Management team.
On Sunday afternoon, the Junior B team hosted a strong and much-fancied Annaghdown team in Corofin pitch for their Junior B Championship Semi-Final. It was lovely conditions for football and the teams did not disappoint the spectators. Both teams were creating and kicking some great scores, but it was goals again that proved the difference. Heather O’Leary and Lorraine Ryder were able to put the ball into the Annaghdown net but in the end, it was not enough to turn the game. Final score Corofin 2-5 Annaghdown 4-6.
The Club are very proud of the Junior B team’s achievements this year. The girls reached the Final of Div5, won the Junior Coen Cup in style and went toe-to-toe against some very strong teams in the championship. Well done to the players and Management team.
UNDERAGE
Last Thursday the U-14 team played their A Final in Corofin against a strong Oranmore-Maree in challenging conditions. Conditions made it a low-scoring game but Oranmore-Maree adapted better and finished the game with a 3-score advantage. Corofin 0-3 Oranmore-Maree 2-4.
The U14 Girls Blue Team travelled to Clifden on Saturday morning for their Div2 Shield Semi-Final against Gráinne Mhaols. It was tough conditions for both teams but a great team effort from our girls to grind out the win. The game finished Corofin 7-04 Gráinne Mhaols 5-08. Best of luck in the Final, girls!
On Saturday morning our U-10 Boys travelled to Annaghdown for the Treacy Melia Memorial Blitz and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was full of very enjoyable football and impressive skill. Thank you to Annaghdown for organising.
The U-8 Girls team headed to Annaghdown on Sunday morning for the “A Barbie Blitz” which was another great spectacle of football for everyone to enjoy. Bualadh bos to everyone in Annaghdown for putting on two great blitz’s two days in a row.
The David Canney Memorial Tournament was on Sunday morning in Belclare. We were delighted to host Doora-Barefield and Micheál Breathnach’s, both teams bringing a wealth of skill and passion. The tournament played off three very competitive and enjoyable games, with Corofin emerging as Tournament Winners, winning both of their games. A big thank you to our two guest clubs for making the journey and taking part.
