GAA CLUB NOTES

Last Wednesday the U19’s played Dunmore MacHales for their rescheduled Round 4 Championship fixture. The lads secured a 3-point lead by the break and the second half saw them kick on another gear. The game finished Corofin 1-14 Dunmore MacHales 1-08, goal from Robbie Winston.

Last Sunday the U17’s recorded a magnificent win over St Michael’s in their Championship Preliminary Quarter Final. Some great scoring was on display and supporters were treated to a goal-fest. The game finished up Corofin 4-10 St Michael’s 2-5. Well done to all players and management.

On Saturday the Senior team play Caherlistrane in Tuam Stadium for Round 4 of the Senior Championship. Also on Saturday, the Junior team play Caherlistrane in Caherlistrane at 6:30pm for Round 5 of the Junior Championship North. On Sunday the Intermediates played Clifden in Moycullen at 1:30pm for Round 3 of the Intermediate Championship.

UNDERAGE

Our two U-13 Boys teams had a great day so far in Carrick on Shannon at Joe Flynn U13 Tournament on Saturday where they won both the Cup and Shield! They had some great matches and had the opportunity to play teams from other counties. All the games were very competitive especially both finals which were 2-point victories. Thanks very much to St. Mary’s for their invitation and to all the other clubs for the sporting games.

The u-9s had a great day in Roscommon Gaels at a blitz on Saturday also. Excellent skills were on display by all. Well done to all the players and coaches.

The U-15 Boys team played their Division 2 Final in Tuam Stadium on Saturday against Monivea-Abbey. It wasn’t the lads’ day as they fell just short in the final. In Division 2, they conquered all challengers with a flawless run of wins. However, it wasn't to be when they met Monivea Abbey again in the final. Congratulations to Monivea Abbey on their well-deserved victory.

A great result on Saturday for the U-16 Girls team, beating Monivea-Abbey in the Division 1 Shield Semi-Final on a scoreline of Corofin 5-06 Monivea-Abbey 2-11. This team has improved game after game and we wish them the very best of luck in the Shield Final.

A massive shoutout to Claremorris LGFA for hosting our U-10 Girls on Saturday. They absolutely loved the games, seeing the smiles on the girls faces afterwards is what it’s all about.

SYMPATHY

The club offers its sympathy to the families and friends of the following who have died recently:

Canon Martin Gleeson, CC Belclare. The club extends the sincere sympathy of the membership to the Gleeson family. The club has enjoyed great success during the years Canon Martin provided pastoral leadership in the parish. A man with great interest in, and knowledge of, gaelic games; he will be fondly remembered for his inspiring words and spiritual blessing of senior teams setting out to Croke Park on All Ireland club final days.

Anne Foy, Castlebar; mother of Ruby Hynes, Corbally

Vincent Cunniffe, Tuam; uncle of Jane Cunniffe, Anbally & Sharon Collins, Bullaun

May they rest in peace.
