GAMES

Last Wednesday the U19 team played their rescheduled Round 1 A Championship North fixture against Monivea-Abbey in Monivea. An assured performance from start to finish resulted in a victory for the lads on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-08 with two 1st half goals from Finn McIntyre and Robbie Winston. Well done to the Players and Management, the win leaves the team top of their group with 3 wins from 3 games. The next fixture for the U19’s is Wednesday 14th September against Tuam Stars in Corofin at 7pm.

On Saturday evening the Senior team played their Senior Championship Round 3 fixture against Maigh Cuilinn in Pearse Stadium. After getting off to a good start, Maigh Cuilinn battled their way back into the game before the break, despite a 1st half goal from Dylan Brady and a penalty save from Bernard Power. At half-time the lads held a slight lead at 1-07 to 0-06. The 2nd half proved a tougher test as Maigh Cuilinn increased their intensity. The game ended in a 2 point loss, 1-12 to 1-14. It was a tough game but plenty for Kevin Johnson and the Players to focus on ahead of the next round but they are well capable of a bounce back. The loss leaves them in 3rd place of Group 1, two points behind joint leaders Tuam Stars and Maigh Cuilinn.

Sunday afternoon the Intermediates played travelled to Kenny Park to play Cortoon Shamrocks in their Round 2 fixture of the Intermediate Championship. 1st half goals from Jack McCabe and Brian Raftery gave them a 1-point lead at half-time. The 2nd half saw an improved performance from our lads and they ran out eventual winners 2-11 to 0-11. Well done to the Players and Management. The win puts them joint top of their group with Glenamaddy, who are their next and final opponents of the group stage.

Later on Sunday the Juniors travelled to Ballinasloe to play Ballinasloe in their 2nd Round fixture of the Junior Championship North. A tough 1st half had the lads trailing at half-time by a single point; 1-5 to 2-03, goal from Finn McIntyre. An stronger performance was needed for the 2nd half and the lads gave just that, ending up comfortable winners; 2-14 to 1-07, 2nd half goal from Cian Murphy. The win lifts the team to 3rd place in Group B with their next and final fixture against group leaders, Athenry.
