CLUB NOTES:

This weekend marked the first time that the club fielded 2 separate teams in the U14 Féile competition. The second team, made up mostly of U13 players, competed in the Sheild games played in Killererin and gave a wonderful account of themselves against teams mostly a full grade ahead of them, coming within a whisker of qualifying for the knockout stages. Congratulations to everyone involved with this team who have marked themselves out as ones to keep an eye on over the next number of years.

The first team enjoyed a wonderful weekend, which culminated in the club capturing their first division 1 Féile title since 2006. Following a very hard fought victory away to a strong Loughrea side on Friday evening, they followed that up with solid victories against Dunmore MacHales and Athenry in Corofin on Saturday. This meant a semi-final, luckily in Corofin on Saturday evening, against a very well drilled Ballinasloe team where Corofin were victorious after a tight game.

The final in Tuam stadium on Sunday afternoon was another battle against a fine footballing Salthill-Knocnacarra side, but Corofin dug deep and got the crucial scores when it mattered. Leading by 1-2 to 0-3 at half time Corofin held on for a 3-3 to 1-5 win after an exciting game of football.

Well done to all who pulled on the jersey over the weekend, it was fantastic to have over 40 players representing the Club at such a high standard.

Many thanks and well done to the management team, the panel of players and all who supported the team in what was another great weekend for Corofin GAA Club.  Special thanks also to everyone who assisted with the hosting of the Féile in Corofin on Saturday, especially our underage secretary Martin Collins who coordinated the event and Noreen Brady who looked after the refreshments all day.

The National Féile finals take place late in June 2017 in Fermanagh, Cavan and Monaghan.

Best wishes to Galway under 21 footballers who play Dublin in the All-Ireland final in Tullamore on Saturday with throw in at 5.00 pm.  We send a special good luck to our three Club players, Kieran Molloy, Dylan McHugh and Colin Brady.

The seniors play Mountbellew-Moylough in the league division 1 at 2.00 pm in Mountbellew on Monday 1 May.

Our under 16s defeated Caherlistrane by 2-16 to 2-4 in the team’s 3rd championship game played in Corofin last Tuesday.

Our under 15s played Dunmore MacHales in Division 1A on Tuesday evening in Corofin.

The under 13 team also play Dunmore MacHales in Division 1A on Friday evening at 7.00 pm in Corofin.

The Jack McHugh 7 a-side Minor Football Memorial Tournament takes place in Belclare pitch next Monday (Bank Holiday) commencing at 11.00 am.  Sincere thanks to the many clubs, groups and individuals who have sponsored the tournament.

The Club offers its sympathy to the family and friends of Joe O'Brien, Rusheens who died recently.  May he Rest in Peace.
