CLUB NOTES:

Galway hurlers have joined the footballers in the latter stages of the All-Ireland series. The hurlers had an excellent win over Clare on Sunday.  Congrats to Daithí Burke who was named the RTE Sunday Game man-of-the-match following his display in the game.  The hurlers now face Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday 14 August.

The senior footballers will also play Tipperary, with their quarter-final taking place on Sunday in Croke Park with throw in at 4.00 pm.  We wish the best of luck to the team and especially to our club players involved.

We say a big thank you to Bernard Power, Liam Silke, Gary Sice and Cathal Silke for bringing the JJ Nestor Connacht Cup to underage training in Belclare on Saturday.  Our younger players really appreciated seeing their heroes with the Cup.

Our intermediates had a narrow loss to Williamstown in the league division 3 on a scoreline of Corofin 3-9 to Williamstown 1-16. The Corofin goals were scored by Justin Burke (2) and John McHugh. Hard luck lads.

Hard luck to the u16s who lost out to Caherlistrane by 4-11 to 6-12 in the division 1A league shield final played in Tuam Stadium on Sunday morning.

We wish an on-going recovery to Jack McHugh who was involved in a serious swimming accident last week while on holiday in Germany.  Jack played at all levels underage up to current Under 16 grade with Corofin GAA Club.  A sincere thanks to all who attended the special mass, which was offered for his recovery and for his family’s intentions last Thursday evening in Corofin Church.  The thoughts and prayers of the entire Club and community are with Jack and his family at this difficult time.

The Corofin GAA Underage School of Excellence takes place from Tuesday 9th Aug to Friday 12th Aug in Belclare pitch. Participation is open to registered Club members aged 8 to 13.   The coaches will be Corofin Senior players and Fundamental Fitness.

Further details are to follow.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Hard luck to our senior team on their narrow defeat to Claregalway on Saturday evening.  The final score was Claregalway 5-15 to Corofin 4-16.  Claregalway dominated the first half, leading by 4-5 to 1-8 at the break.  But a brilliant second half display from Corofin helped to ignite our championship.  We played with great determination, drawing level before the game swung one way then the other, never more than a point or two in the difference. Now we know we have it in us, let repeating that second half performance be our intent in the semi-final.
